4 C's: The Certification

This is the new 'C' (or the 5th 'C' as it is now commonly known).

A diamond certificate is an independent report prepared by a laboratory that lists a variety of details on a specific stone. These details include its weight, colour, clarity, polish, cut grade (round diamonds only) and symmetry. There are also detailed measurements of the proportions of the diamond, as well as descriptions of its inclusions and where they are located.

Different laboratories have different grading parameters, which may result in confusion. They may also use different terminology to describe the same grading. We recommend the use of a reputable lab such as GIA and warn against certificates prepared by individuals.

The laboratory certificate should not be confused with a valuation certificate.

At Kalfin Jewellery, we only use GIA-certified stones for anything above 0.30ct. All our diamonds are serial numbered with a laser-inscribed report number.
We welcome you to arrange an obligation-free consultation at our Collins Street boutique in the Melbourne CBD to explore your choices. Our tutorial with real loose diamonds will ensure you make an informed decision on the 4Cs and we can explain the information contained on a diamond certificate in detail.
