Kalfin Jewellery Melbourne specialises in quality custom-made diamond engagement rings. We understand that choosing a ring is a big decision. There are countless options to explore and plenty of questions you’ll need answered by an expert before you make that decision.
Here are some of the most common questions our experts have answered for our many clients over the years.
Should I buy an engagement ring before or after I propose?
There is no right or wrong answer to this question. It’s very romantic to have the ring when you pop the question, but if you’ve chosen it yourself there is always the risk your partner won’t like it. It very much depends on your partner and how well you know their tastes.
At Kalfin Jewellery, we have solutions for that exact situation. Contact us at our Melbourne store before you propose and we’ll remove that risk for you.
What should I look for in a ring?
Two important considerations for rings are design and the type of stone/s featured. There are many design options, including solitaire, side stone, halo, trilogy, and vintage. You can also custom-design your ring with us here at our Kalfin Jewellery store in Melbourne. All stones above 0.30 carat are independently certified by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America).
Should rings be custom-made?
Ultimately that’s a decision that only you and/or your partner can make, but it’s certainly worth considering. After all, you want a ring to perfectly reflect the unique bond that you and your partner share. What better way to do that than to custom-design your own together! You’ll ensure you have an engagement ring Melbourne hasn’t seen before.
At Kalfin Jewellery, we have over 35 years of design experience and can offer you an obligation-free consultation to explore your needs and design ideas.
What stone or diamond should I choose for my engagement ring?
In terms of stones, most engagement rings include at least one diamond and/or gemstones like sapphires, rubies and emeralds. If you’re choosing a diamond, it’s important to understand that bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better. The quality of a diamond is far more important than its size. A well-cut and well-proportioned diamond will always out-sparkle a larger diamond with poorer qualities.
The quality of a diamond depends on its grading in terms of the 4C’s – Cut (shape and proportions), Colour, Clarity and Carat (weight). Ideally you want a balance between size, colour and clarity. Look for a diamond whose size is GIA certified, that has a minimum colour grading of ‘G’, and is graded ‘100% eye clean’ in terms of clarity. In addition, you should ensure you choose a diamond that has been ethically sourced as part of the the Kimberley Process, as we do at Kalfin Jewellery here in Melbourne.
How much should I spend on a ring when I propose?
Again, there is no right or wrong answer to this question. At Kalfin, we tailor our design offerings to your individual needs and budget. Because we are a designer and are locally based in Melbourne, we can ensure exceptional flexibility and value for money for any budget, without compromising quality.
Is buying a ring stressful?
No, it doesn’t have to be! Getting engaged should be one of the happiest and most stress-free experiences of you and your partner’s lives. At Kalfin Jewellery, our unique step-by-step approach to understanding your needs and educating you about your jewellery options will remove any stress and allow you to make an informed decision.
Consider these recent testimonials from a few of our Melbourne clients:
My knowledge of the whole process was pretty non-existent and Kalfin were so happy to guide me and help me through everything. Their service was exceptional and they designed the perfect ring that was even better than I imagined and my fiancée was over the moon.
Absolutely unbelievable experience. I had a very clear image of what I wanted and Kalfin exceeded my expectations. Truly a one of a kind custom ring. Thank you so much for helping me give the love of my life an amazing ring.
Kalfin’s creativity, craftsmanship, attention to detail and service were beyond my expectations. I came in to their Melbourne store over a year ago to create my now fiancée’s ring. With an incredibly fussy girl on my hands, I was so nervous about where to start but they made everything so easy and I immediately knew I was in good hands. My fiancée absolutely loves her ring and gets comments about it daily.
